Visit of Minister of Economic Affairs Daniela Schmitt
As part of the EU funding program "Implementation of Business Innovation (IBI-EFRE)", the Minister of Economic Affairs, Daniela Schmitt, handed over the grant approval.
Providing patients in need of care with medication safely and efficiently – a vision that becomes reality at IMSTec. With a fully automated tablet filling system, the special-purpose machine manufacturer from Klein-Winternheim, together with its partner KNAPP AG from Graz, is bringing a unique technology to the healthcare market.
The system fills patient-specific medications into weekly blister packs. Every process step within the system is monitored and documented to ensure maximum safety and quality. Pharmacies and blister centers use the fully automated system to produce weekly blister packs reliably and efficiently, supplying nursing facilities and mobile care services.
The first system has been installed at the demo center in Klein-Winternheim and is operated by a pharmacist from Mainz. Since the summer of this year, the system has received official approval from the responsible state authority. With this innovative solution, the pharmacy supplies several hundred patients in the Mainz area.
To ensure high performance in production at the highest quality level, IMSTec will in future manufacture the required process and consumable materials at its own production facility in Klein-Winternheim. The expansion of this production is now being specifically supported and further advanced with EU funding.
“The support provided by the EU funding program is of great importance to us, as the costs for such a development are considerable,” says Managing Director Edgar Mähringer-Kunz, emphasizing: “Our vision is to noticeably improve the supply and support of patients in need of care through automation. In doing so, we create greater quality of life for those affected, relieve the burden on caregivers, and at the same time contribute to reducing costs in the healthcare system.”
Regulatory requirements and legal frameworks must keep pace over time and open up space for technological innovations. In view of the shortage of skilled workers and the growing demand for higher quality in care, automated processes not only offer enormous potential but also provide concrete solutions to successfully meet the challenges in healthcare.
On the occasion of her visit, Rhineland-Palatinate’s Minister of Economic Affairs Daniela Schmitt presented the symbolic grant approval of around 310,000 euros. “Industrial companies such as IMSTec GmbH demonstrate how important innovative strength and entrepreneurial responsibility are for our economic region,” said Minister Schmitt during the symbolic handover. “Here in Klein-Winternheim, solutions are being developed that secure competitiveness while at the same time contributing to medical care.”
